Baking soda is often used to clean teeth, tubs, stoves, etc. It is used because it is a nice harsh but natural chemical that strips away things. Dirt, oil, grime and smell. It also strips out color...hair color. The kind of hair color people pay big money for monthly. Yep, and I knew this because many times I have told people if you dye your own hair and it comes out too dark add some baking soda to your shampoo a few times and it will take out some of the excess. I just told a friend the other day, your little ones have pool chemicals try baking soda. So why did I not even think about that before this great experiment. I don't know. I was caught up in the magic of the testing experience. It is one of those preexisting conditions I did not account for.
The great thing about this is...I do my own hair color so I can just do it again! I have now just saved you lovely ladies...and gentleman the pain that can go along with using baking soda instead of shampoo.
Do I think it was a good test? Yes, because now when people come to me I will not "poo poo" it without knowing why. I do think it could be good for other peoples hair though who don't have color and who need the extra natural oils. I did love all the body my hair had on those cleaner days.
I do like my shampoos though, I have always loved the different smells and effects you get from them. I'm weird I know!
So my final conclusion is, if you like your hair colored it is not for you. If you have dry or curly hair and no hair color it might be for you. It is definitely cost effective and green. I say, go with what works for you.
As for me, I will be rewarding my testing effort with a new bottle of Pureology shampoo and conditioner. Don't worry, I'll write you a review on it. ;)
how often were you "washing" your hair with the baking soda?
ReplyDeleteI washed with the baking soda and vinegar about every 3 days, by the end of the second day though I did find myself running my hands through my hair a lot. You know like how you do when you are self conscious about possibly looking greasy!?
